About The Speaker:

Mufti Taqi Usmani

Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani was born in 1943 in Deoband, India. He is the son of the late Maulana Mufti Muhammad Shafi, the former Grand Mufti of Pakistan. He obtained his Takhassus degree (an advanced degree equivalent to Ph.D.) in Islamic education from Darul Uloom Karachi, the largest and most renowned Islamic educational institution in Pakistan. He also obtained a Master's degree in Arabic literature from Punjab University, and a law degree (LLB) from Karachi University. He is regarded as an expert in the fields of Hadith (sacred traditions of the Holy Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), Economics, and Tasawwuf (Islamic spirituality). He has been teaching these and other branches of Islamic education since 1959. He served as Judge of the Shariat Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan from 1982 to May 2002. He is also a permanent member of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, an organ of OIC based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He has served as the Vice Chairman of the Academy for nine years. He is also the Vice President of Darul Uloom Karachi. He is generally known as one of the leading Shariah scholars active in the field of Islamic finance. For more than a decade he has served as chairman or member of Shariah supervisory boards of a dozen Islamic banks and financial institutions in various parts of the world. He presently serves as Chairman of the International Shariah Council for the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) in Bahrain. He has held many positions in the higher echelons of the education sector of Pakistan and has participated in numerous commissions set up by the government of Pakistan in the field of education and economics. Since 1967, he's been the Chief Editor of the monthly Urdu-language magazine "Albalagh", and since 1990, he's been Chief Editor of the monthly English-language magazine "Albalagh International." He has also contributed articles to leading Pakistani newspapers on a range of issues. He has authored more than 60 books in Arabic, English, and Urdu.

Concept of Responsibility:

Ahmad-shah-mosque-Malaysia

Islam gives the concept of fulfilling some responsibilities to propagate good deeds, to deter evil deeds and to help each other.
The Holy prophet Said “that the man who lives among others and shows patience on the misdeeds done to him by others is better than that that does not live among the people and is not patient over excesses done him”.
After these instructions Islam has also given a system of basic human rights which includes rights of brothers, family members, relative’s neighbours, common men and minorities.
Even the rights of animals and plants are determined in Islamic system.
After the brief comprehension of Islam's different systems it is must to know that what are those rules and regulations which Islam has authorized to develop a society. 

Some of these are discussed briefly as under.

Mutual Relationship of members of family:

Family is the first and basic institution of human social training. That's why the importance of a family in Islamic society is very great. First step of Islamic society is the formation of a family which is a pure and legitimate relation between a man and woman. This relation makes a unity within itself.
Here a new generation comes into being and many other relations are also generated. Finally all these relations spread over to form a complete society.

In other words a family trains a man and prepares him for the next future of the family. And Islam also wants to develop this institution of good men of society.

Relationship:

There are much more in the family stock to deal with: kin and kith outside one's family. Islam wants to see all these to share each other's sorrows and happiness. In Qur'an there are many places where emphasis is laid upon good behaviour towards relatives. But it does not mean that there should be encouragement against Islam and its traditions. Islam has also set hereditary rules to strengthen the existing relations.

Mosque:

Beautiful Mosque

Mosque is symbol of unity among Muslims and it reflects the tone of existing relations. It also works as a permanent institution for the social ties. It is only Mosque which can make Islamic social plan successful.

Respected Traditions:

In an Islamic Society the sacred traditions must be guarded at all costs and the policy must also be framed upon these lines because this process does not break its links with its past.
But it is not meant for that no new tradition will be set up. The fast changes in routine life automatically change the boring traditions. There is no need of change via revolution or revolt.

Education system:

The real reformation of Islamic society is only possible through its education policy, because to transfer ones traditions and knowledge ones must ponder over the faults of their education policy. Education is also one of the greatest pillars of Islamic Society.

Limits and legal Codes:

There are many ways to cope with evils and good of any society but rules and regulations to curb the evil-doers are also must. Islam also has such system with proper rules and regulations. These rules are made to save the citizens from evildoers and sinners. Islam has set particular penalties and punishments to deal bad elements with an iron hand.
        No one is greater or smaller in the eyes of Islamic Law.

The Holy Prophet S.A.W once said “If my daughter steals something, by God I will cut her hands too"

Welfare Environment in Islam

The atmosphere of the society must be developed on the basis of welfare, cooperation, help, share in sorrow, sacrifice and brotherhood. When the people meet they must pray for each other's salvation. Every man must wish for his brother what he likes for himself. All the evils must be avoided. Cooperation must be rendered in good deeds. 

    Quran says:"Help ye one another unto righteousness and pious duty. Help not one another unto sin and transgression." (5:2)

At another place says:

Be thou kind even as Allah hath been kind to thee, and seek not corruption in the earth. (28:77)

At another place Quran Justifies:

O ye who believe! Let not folk deride a folk who may be better than they (are), nor let women (deride)  women who may be better than they are; neither defame one another, nor insult one another by nicknames. Bad is the name of lewdness after faith. (49:11)

Moreover Quran says:

And spy not, neither backbite one another.(49:12)

 All these verses mean that Islam wants to make the atmosphere congenial for every one.

Basis for social system in Islam

Outline:

1. Equality.
2. Fraternity.
3. Wedding Bond.

Equality:

The first and most important basis of an Islamic society is that all the human being are from the same pedigree. All the mankind is the children of Adam A.S. Colour,language,forefathers,tribes, brotherhood, countries and other natural thing are only for the sake of introduction with each other. But to make these differences the basis of distinction between each other is totally wrong.

Because at all levels. In Qur'an it is said:

O mankind! Lo! We have created you male and female and have made you nations and tribes that ye may know one another, Lo! the noblest of you, in the sight of Allah, is the best in conduct. Lo! Allah is knower, Aware. (49:13)

 At another place in the Qur'an it said:

O mankind! Be careful of duty to your Lord Who created you from a single soul and from it created its mate and from them twain hath spread abroad a multitude of men and women. (4:1)

 The theory of Oneness of God not only puts forward the concept of single God but also gives the idea of unity among mankind. All the men are the imperative parts of this universe. If all the system of the universe is strongly harmonious manner. They must adopt a universal style of life. In Islam every one has to play his role fully.

2.Fraternity.

All the Muslims are brothers for each other. The relation due to religion is considered to be the greatest of all. Qur'an says:

The believers are not else brothers. (49:10)

At another place in Quran it is Said:

And hold fast, all of you together to the cable of Allah and do not separate. (3:103)

In the same process traditions and moral regulations build an Islamic society in which a man finds his relation with others on the same basis. Inverses to it the people who refuse to adopt this way of life do not find their place in such society but on the human basis they can have their due share in Islamic society.

3. Wedding Bond.

Men and women are two different pillars of a society. Both have their own cults and personality. Both take part in building of social set-up. There is equality between men and women on the legal basis. Both men and women have some rights and responsibilities in this regard. In a family structure male member is considered leader and supervisor of the affairs..

Generally every man and woman are just like brother and sister and they have no right to be one but marriage is the only way through which they can get united and share each other's problems. This is the very legal method by which they are valid for each other. Here lay the basis of separate family.

Khulasa yeh ke bus jull bhun ker apni roo-sayahi sey,

Teri chokhat ke laeq har amal se hath hein khali,
Yeh Tera ghar hai ye Tere mehr ka darbar hai Maula

Teri chokhat ke jo adab hein, main unn se khali hoon,
Nahi jis ko saleeqa manganey ka, woh sawali hoon
Zuban ghalt-e-nadamat dil ki nakas tarjumani per,
Khudaya reham meri iss zaban-e-ijz-zabani per,
Ye ankhein khushk hein, Ya Rabb inhein rona nahi aata,
Sulagtay daagh hein dil mein jinhein dhona nahi aata.

Ilahi teri chokhat per bhikari ban kay aaya hoon,

Translation

 Introduction.

  Man is a social animal. His nature is always inclined to love that's why he likes to live collectively with other people. Man is helpless in this regard forever. ALLAH has given man wisdom and intellect only to live with a society. When a man is born he always looks forward to the people who look after him. When he comes to an age he stands in need of necessities of life. He always remains in need of someone or something and if he is cut off from all these things he will be totally a man for nothing.

Every man affects the life of other.

It is very easy to grasp the idea that every man affects the life of the other and get affected in his case too. But it is not a logic to think a man naturally in lovable, therefore, a group is depended upon persons and any loss to a single man is the loss of the whole group. Both are part and parcel. A group of people  is like human body in which if any part is injured or functioning not well the whole body will not perform other functions well.

For instance if a boy earns a bad name for his family by doing evil deeds the honour of the whole family will be at stake. The same is the condition of the societies where every person is important at his or her place. If there good deed is done by anyone he will will not only brightens his name but also of family and nation to which he belongs. All the members of a society are equally responsible for profit and loss.

They have same emotions and feelings  for their combined progress. And all the nations of the world have the same style of general life and same formation of bodies effects and impressions on each other in different capacities.

Islamic mode of life.

Islam has its own stable and firm mode of life which has certain laws and regulations. It has full code for justice along with equal line. Society is a name of  a united people thus Islam does never ignores the basic rights of an individual as well as of a group. Islam looks all the individuals and groups from a same angle.

  Islam is a religion which favours separate identity of every individual. It never considers a man only a spare of any system but considers an individual within a society. Islam provides a chance to flourish his talents.

Qur'an Says:

" whoso doth right it is for his soul and whoso doth wrong it is against it". (41:46)

 Islamic mode of life.

And to keep on realising the responsibility in this regard it is necessary that one's faith in ALLAH. the Holy Prophet S.A.W and the day of judgement must be fresh for all the time. For this purpose to have knowledge of religion is very important therefore, Islam lays great emphasis upon the acquisition of knowledge. The Holy Prophet S.A.W was particularly taught a Quranic verse.

    "And say: My Lord! Increase me in knowledge" (20:114)

And The Holy Prophet S.A.A himself said: It is the duty of every Muslim man and woman to acquire knowledge.

The acquisition of knowlwdge is mainly for reformation of practical life. That's why Islam has stressed for the quest of knowledge. 

Quran in this regard openly says:

"And that man hath only that for which he maketh effort." (53:39)

The Holy Prophet S.A.W has said that he who attempts for something he gets the same and every man who tries definitely he gets something. At another place the Holy Prophet S.A.W says: 

  Do Try! Because to try is an obligation set to you by ALLAH.

Again the Holy Prophet Says that Faith is in fact a name of attestation by heart confession through tongue and  practical show of organs. And ALLAH does not accept faith without practical and practical without faith.

It simply means that faith and practical are concomitant with each other.

Islam sees Muslim Ummah as the central! Ummah or an Ummah for Good, therefore the solidarity of religion and for the sacrifice of his life for the sake of the propaganda of religion.

In Qur'an the Muslims are ordered:

Go forth, light armed and heavy-armed and strive with your wealth and your lives in the way of ALLAH!. (53:41)

Here it is important to note that the environment of Islamic society also provides a chance for the betterment of the world hereafter.

Social Reformation:

Islam not only reform individual but also furthers its reformatory programme to a collective number. It attaches equal importance to individual and society's reformation . Contrary to it modern western revolutions want only to revolutions the common life system but not the life of an individual. It resulted in the failure of those revolutions. At the other end the eastern systems struck at the at the needs of individual and neglected the role of a group which resulted in too in failure. But save all it was Islam which have forth a perfect system of life.
Generally Islam demands a society which is universal, pure of artificial controversies, devoid of prejudices sans cast, creed, colour, land and language, boundary-less at par, collectively justified, having global brotherhood, unique thinking same moral grounds, law abiding people, mutual sympathy, humanity and emotions for helping others with one's wealth and health.

Islam keeps balance in human life.

Islam alone among such man-made religions as Christianity and Judaisam , keeps a balance between life both in this world and life in the Hereafter. The Jews have minimised their false religion through the ages. It is they who had challenged the prophet and killed more or less six thousand Prophets without any fear of the Hereafter.

The Christians have crippled to the other extreme and made the Prophet Isa A.s their God and wrongfully believe that he has atoned for their sins.
Islam on the other hand, embraces life in its totality. It takes this world and the Hereafter, soul and body, individual and society. equally into consideration. It is Islam alone that makes man a responsible being and answerable to Allah in the Hereafter. It is Islam alone that (vide Al-Qur'an 79:34-41) says: "When the Great Disaster (Judgement Day) comes, the Day when man will recall to his mind all that he strove for, and Hell will be made manifest to him who sees. Then as for him who rebels and who chooses the life of this world, the Fire of Hell shall surely be his Home. But for him who fears to stand before his Rabb, and restrains himself from evil desires the Jannat (Gardens) shall surely be his Home".

Miracle of spread of Islam.

It is a living miracle of the truth of Islam that it is spreading at a huge pace in the world. In spite of its inadequate propagation and literature in foreign languages, people are attracted to it by day and night by its inherent and magnetic force.

Mankind ever keeps on embracing this religion of peace, of love and of universal brotherhood. Whenever non-Muslims either by dint of their personal study or by chance contact with a Muslim they learn the true facts about Islam the invariable conclusion they arrive at is that Islam is a very simple religion and all its teachings are perfectly balanced rational and in complete consonance with the laws of nature.




Islam has all along since Prophet Adam a,s been modern. Since the present age of Islam which recommences from Prophet Muhammad S.A.W it is also modern. The religion of Islam is ever new and ever modern. As it is based on reality and nature of mankind hence it does not undergo any change at any time. It has been so since its birth and it will remain so for all the times to come till the Judgement Day. Islam with its stress on reason, tolerance and justice is today as capable of making its contribution to the advancement of mankind as it did in all ages.

Islam is an ideology which in the contemporary world is subscribed to by more than one-fourth of the total human race. East to west, from Indonesia to Morocco and south to north from Tanzania to Turkey,
there lies across the globe by ALLAH's grace  the Muslim belt of sovereign Muslim States. Apart from independent Muslim countries there are Muslim minorities, spread by Allah's Grace.

over the whole world. They are found in America, Europe Russia, China India Japan Australia, and in every nook and corner of the world. Muslims are ever attempting to bring the misled mankind on the path of Islam and to encourage peace in the disturbed world. By day and night Islam is spreading every where. Today there is no country in the world where there does not exist a community of the Muslims..the torch-bearers (muballigheen) of Islam. There are by Allah's Grace mosques spread throughout the world, from where the Muazzins proclaim ALLAH-o-AKBAR meaning "Allah is Great" day in and day out.

3. All prophets were Muslims.

All prophets were Muslims.

All the prophets viz. Adam Nuh, Ibrahim, Ismail, Ishaq,Yaqub, Yusuf, David, Sulaiman, Yahya, Idris, Iliyas, Yunus, Musa, Isa,etc and Muhammad S.a.w were the followers of the religion of Islam and were Muslims.

Allah establishes here and there in His Book....the Quran....That all the prophets who have been mentioned and those who have not been mentioned there were followers of Islam, and were Muslims. Ibrahim A.s whom the Jews and the Christians wrongfully call as Jew or a Christian was also a staunch Muslim and followed Islam and followed Islam.
This fact has been clarified by Allah in the Quran 3:67-68 which reads thus: Ibrahim was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was an upright Muslim, and nor was he of the Mushiks (associators).
The nearest of mankind to Ibrahim ( i.e. the religion of Ibrahim) are those people who followed his religion and this Prophet (Muhammad) and that mankind (i.e., Muslims) who bring Faith in this Prophet, and Allah is the helper of the Muslims.

The Muslims are the bes nation in the world. This fact has been testified by Allah in the Quran 3:110 which reads thus:
"You are the best people raised for the Good of mankind; you enjoin what is good and forbid evil and believe in Allah."

There has all along been, since Adam A.s only one true religion Islam. And this has all along been stated in the Revelations of Allah that Islam is the same law of Allah which has all along been revealed to the mankind. Mankind has been straying from the Right Path, off and on.

The teaching of all the prophets from Adam to Muhammad S.a.w was only one the code of conduct for the whole mankind was only one the Message was only one, and even the Book which has been revealed in more or less 104 revelations was only one, though revealed in different languages, through different prophets and at differrent times. Allah establishes that fact in the Quran in 2:213

"Originally, the whole mankind was a single Ummah (nation of Islam) Allah raised Prophets as bearers of glad tiding and warners, and He sent with them the Books with truth that. He may judge between mankind in that wherein they diffred and nobody differed therein after witnessing and testifying that which had come to them except those who differed with obstinate disobedience."

Allah stresses here and there in the Quran that the path of Islam is the only right path, and that no other religion except Islam is acceptable to Him.

In Quran 3:19 Allah says: "Surely the Deen (religion) with Allah is only Islam."
Again in 3:85 He says: Whoever will seek a religion other than Islam it shall never be accepted of him, and he shall be of the losers in the hereafter."

The present age of Islam as Contained in the Quran and the hadith is not a new religion but it is the same original Islam which was revealed to All Prophets.
The Quran Points out towards that fact in 87:18 and 6:92 thus: " And this (Quran) is in the Scriptures of the earliest Revelations, the Scriptures of Ibrahim and Musa" and " This is the Book (Quran) which We have revealed bringing blessings and confirming all which has been revealed prior to it."
